Romanesque in Slovenia

The first exhibition of Romanesque architecture in Slovenia was prepared by the leading researchers of Romanesque architecture, Dr. Marijan Zadnikar and Dr Ivan Stopar, in the late 1980s. The exhibition documents the intensive research on Romanesque architecture in Slovenia in the decades after the Second World War. It was installed at Cmurek castle in cooperation with the Museum of Architecture and Design in Ljubljana to commemorate the life and work of academic Dr. Marijan Zadnikar, who, as part of the first scientific research on Romanesque architecture in Slovenia, began to investigate the first beginnings of Cmurek Castle. This was one of the most important Romanesque castles in Slovenia in the 12th century, and was also distinguished by its distinctive works of art, of which the two reliefs are still preserved today.
