In the Beginning was the Mura
The exhibition of fossils from the Mura waterfront takes us back 25 million years to the time when the Miocene sea was here.
Since 1919, the Mura River has been the national border, and over the past 100 years, we have become more and more distant from the river, aided by industrialisation and intensive farming, which have made us forget that our rivers are our lifeblood and the source of life not only for many animal and plant species, but also for people. The exhibition of fossils from the Mura waterfront takes us back 25 million years to the time when the Miocene sea was here. It shows us the remains of many of the sea's extinct inhabitants, as well as the few that are still found in the Mura today and represent a link with prehistoric times.
