In the 16th century, after the end of the Ottoman invasions, Cmurek Castle was thoroughly renovated and given a Renaissance look. The arcaded façade in the courtyard is enchanting, and a walk under the two wooden painted Renaissance ceilings in the west wing of the castle is particularly inspiring, offering beautiful views of the Mura Valley. The Renaissance Hall, the Renaissance Room, the Knights' Hall and the Pearl Room give the visitor a glimpse of life in a time when Cmurek was much more connected to Europe than it is today. This is confirmed by two copies of recently acquired double portraits from Cmurek, the originals of which are held by the Maribor Regional Museum.
