Endless Meadows of Madness
The exhibition takes us into the history of life and work in the State Asylum for the Mentally and Neurologically Ill, which operated in the Cmurek Castle in Trate from 1949 to 2004. In the premises of the former "madhouse", the visitor hears the voices of workers, residents, their relatives and neighbours, who tell the story from the opening to the closure of the institution in Trate. It takes us even further back in time, to the time when the first special institutions for the insane and the mad began to be organised. It gives the example of Italy, where such institutions started to close in the 1970s and which, together with Trate, is an example that it is possible to organise services in the community and that people with disabilities have the right to live in normal environments.
