Preserving the Cultural Heritage of Cmurek Castle
This project brings to light the often-forgotten historical layers of Cmurek Castle, a remarkable cultural monument with a complex and rich past.
From 1949 to 2004, Cmurek Castle housed a social care institution. Nine years after the closure of the psychiatric hospital, the castle was transformed into a cultural, social, and tourist center. This renewal has helped reintroduce the castle’s hidden history to the public and emphasize its significance as a cultural landmark.
In 2023 and 2024, the project includes a variety of educational programs, round tables, conferences, and lectures focusing on the castle’s heritage. Special attention is given to the topic of difficult heritage. Additionally, two guides will be published, one on Cmurek Castle and the other on the Museum of Madness. A series of promotional activities will further raise awareness of the castle and make it more accessible to the general public and researchers alike.
