Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Cmurek Castle
This project highlights the forgotten historical layers of Cmurek Castle, an exceptional cultural monument
This project highlights the forgotten historical layers of Cmurek Castle, an exceptional cultural monument.
From 1949 to 2004, Cmurek Castle housed a social welfare institution. Nine years after the closure of the Institute for the Mentally Ill and Nervous Disorders, it became a cultural, social, and tourist centre, bringing the forgotten historical layers of this exceptional cultural monument back into focus. In 2025 and 2026, a series of educational programmes, round tables, consultations, and lectures on cultural monuments and cultural heritage will be organised, with an emphasis on difficult heritage. Translations of the guides Dom za duševno defektne (Sonja Bezjak) into English and Grad Cmurek (Igor Sapač) into German will be published. Several promotional activities will be undertaken to make Cmurek Castle even more recognisable and accessible to the general public and researchers.
