From September 29 to 30, 2025, the annual meeting of the European Faro Convention network took place in Novi Sad (Serbia), in the Almaški kraj district, the annual meeting of the European Faro Convention network took place, which this year coincided with the 20th anniversary of the signing of this important document - "20 years of Faro Convention - 20 years of Almašani". The event brought together representatives of numerous organizations from various European countries that strive to implement the principles of the Faro Convention - connecting people with cultural heritage, promoting democratic participation, and involving communities in heritage preservation processes.
Cooperation, dialogue, and networking
Representatives from France, Italy, Spain, Romania, Serbia, Lithuania, and other countries participated in several working sessions and discussions.
For the first time since joining the Faro Network, representatives from the Museum of Madness also attended the meeting. The discussions focused on the involvement of local communities, educational approaches, working with young people, and linking cultural heritage with social development.
Of particular interest was the discussion with local initiators from Serbia - the Žeravica Museum, the Aračani group from Novi Bečej, the Samobor Association, and artist Sonja Bajić. The meetings sparked ideas for new connections, joint projects, and the creation of spaces for cooperation between organizations within the network.
About the Faro Convention
The European Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro Convention) emphasizes the importance of heritage as a source of shared values, identity, and social cohesion. The key idea that also marked the meeting in Novi Sad is that cultural heritage is not important in itself, but because of the meanings we attribute to objects, spaces, practices and the values we co-create with them.
